With the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series nearing the halfway point of the 2012 race season, race wins seem to mean even more now. Sure wins all account for the same number of points throughout NASCAR's 26-race "regular season," but they still seem even more important as the series heads to Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway for the Saturday night running of the Coke Zero 400.

Luiz Razia scored a sensational victory in Sunday morning's sprint race at the Valencia street circuit, the 12th round of the GP2 Series, taking the lead with only seven corners remaining from longtime leader James Calado.

Calado (Lotus GP) led the majority of the race, which was punctuated by two early safety cars. But he was chased hard early on by Carlin duo Rio Haryanto and Max Chilton.

Ford Performance Racing boss Tim Edwards has described as "borderline lunacy" the driving which led to Jamie Whincup and Will Davison spectacularly crashing their V8 Supercars at Phillip Island on Saturday.

Championship front-runners Whincup and Davison tangled in a late-race crash which potentially damages their title hopes, and wrecked their cars.
